GLADIUS Association for Preserving Historic Traditions was found in 2002 with the purpose of studying ancient events, archaeological finds, cultural and gastronomic heritage of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County and in a wider context the ones of the Great Plain and to present it to people interested within various programmes and events.

Ancient history of our county was determined for about 500 years (it is the time of Roman emperors) by fighting and peaceful relationship of the Romans and Sarmatians, the latter lived in large number in the current Great Plain. In the valley of Zagyva river and along Tisza river a Roman fortress line was built, defending territory of the Empire and preserving peace between the Romans and Sarmatian tribes. In peaceful periods of time commercial roads led in the area of Jazygians ( they settled first in the current Great Plain), connecting the Roman provinces (Pannonia, Dacia).
